35. Great Faith

Mom skirts the line at the book signing,

approaching from behind, she touches the author’s jacket.

Chemo is killing her vocal chords, so she leans close

to whisper,

“I’m Megan’s mother.”

The author, a doctor, recognizes the signs of her cancer.

He gently asks, “I’m sorry, who?”

“Megan Willome,” she says.

He recognizes my surname.

“Ah, yes,” he says.

“You must be the woman of great faith.”

She is that woman,

that woman who cut in line

to receive a healing touch

from the Great Physician.
