When you don’t want to go to church, there is no excuse too small. And when you do want to go to church, there is no excuse too big.

For the last couple of years, even cleaning house was a viable excuse for not attending church. And of course, Sunday morning is the best time to take a long bike ride. But since Advent, since I started visiting a new church, I’ve found a way around virtually every excuse.

I thought my reasons for not attending church were good. Lots of people told me they were. But, oh, it’s just so good to be back, even though this church is unlike any I’ve attended before.

This whole church thing is nowhere near perfect. My husband came with me last week, and it’s not for him. I knew it wouldn’t be. My kids have been burned so many times that they aren’t even remotely interested. I understand how they feel. They think I’ve gone ’round the bend. Maybe I have. Maybe this is my great, big spiritual crisis. I don’t really care because it’s so good to be back somewhere, even in a foreign place.
