If you could be any animal for a day, what would you be?
I would want to be a turtle.
Why would you want to be a turtle?
Because they’re slow. I like to be slow at things.
This exchange appeared in the August, 2011 issue of the Wacoan magazine, between 8-year-old Kylee Sanchez and interviewer Rachel Badders.
Have you ever met a child who said, “I like to be slow at things”?
Me neither. It makes me want to sit down and write Kylee a letter. Or, since it’s 2011, a blog post.
Dear Kylee,
I am so happy that you like turtles. I like them, too. I especially like big Galapagos turtles at the Cameron Park Zoo. They’re so big and slow. I watch and watch them. Is that what you like to do, too?
Those turtles can live to be 100 years old. Have you ever known a person who was 100 years old? I haven’t, but my grandmother is 97. Maybe some day she’ll be as old as a turtle.
Sometimes, when people grow up, they forget to be slow. They go super fast all the time. I hope you remember that you like to be slow at things. Slow can be fun, too.
Maybe I’ll see you at the zoo.
take care,
Megan
