I’m on the front porch. John is working in the back. My son is working on the side. My daughter is working in the garage. I am not working. I am waiting for work to come to me (it’s editing week).
Usually, I am the one working. Working, working, working. I work, and I sleep, and once a week I sabbath. But even that has become its own work: here is the work I do on the Sabbath.
Today I am empty. I am quiet. I am still. I am uncomfortable. I refuse to move.
No one needs me. It’s OK.
We left a Halloween ghost way up in the live oak tree. He’s stuck in perpetual flutter. Me, too.
I am not needed right now. I am loved.
