This week we’re celebrating the release of Rainbow Crow, my book of children’s poetry about crows.
I’m also answering interview questions from the book Dear Mr. Henshaw. Yesterday I answered Leigh’s questions for Mr. Henshaw. Today I’m answering Mr. Henshaw’s questions for Leigh.
1) Who are you?
Someone who likes poetry and tea and walks in the dark.
2) What do you look like?
Like a middle-aged white woman. My hair is already gray.
3) What is your family like?
Mostly Texan.
4) Where do you live?
In the Texas Hill Country, on a small lot with lots of blooming color.
5) Do you have any pets?
Two terrier mixes, sisters: Polo and Clover. They were rescue puppies; they are now old dogs who are excellent sleepers.
6) Do you like school?
Yes, mostly. I found reading and writing to be easy. I found everything else to be hard.
7) Who are your friends?
My best friends are my writing friends. Reading friends are a close second.
8) Who is your favorite teacher?
It’s a tie between Ms. Helen Hulen and Mr. Kevin Dunn, both music teachers from my elementary school days. They are still good friends with each other.
9) What bothers you?
Heat and garish sun.
10) What do you wish?
That everyone would read Sigrid Undset’s epic Norwegian trilogy Kristin Lavransdatter so I would have more people with whom I could discuss my favorite book. But I will settle for discussing the best book ever written, E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web.
