It’s just not breakfast at Mom’s without a fruit salad.
She makes it the way her mother did,
cutting up bananas, apples, oranges,
maybe a mango.
This Christmas morning, it’s my job.
I start with my grandmother’s fruits
add Ranier cherries — Mom’s favorite
fold in Maine blackberries — for our New England trip
slice Bosc pears — which I do not care for (but were on sale)
but this year, in this fruit salad,
the pears were heavenly.
